6:45PM - The Ig Nobel Prizes
It is really funny that there is funding for such ridiculous researches like the ones that make it into the Ig Nobel Prizes. I mean, some on, this year the Ig Nobel Prize for Chemistry is shared by two scientific teams, one of which proved that Coke has spermicidal properties, while the other one proved the exact opposite.
The Economy Ig Nobel Prize is for a research on the effect of the ovulatory cycle of lap-dancers on their tips.
If anyone wants to read the whole list of absurd researches -> Improbable Research

10:36PM - hd_inspired art rec
Tonight was posted a gorgeous piece of art over at hd_inspired. And it was my prompt that inspired the artist. I can only bow to the talent of this person and thank them for the pleasure. Go see it, it's so worth it!
Game? What game? - NWS
I just can't stop looking at it. I love everything about it. Draco's head thrown back in passion, his ecstatic face, his fingers grasping desperately for some balance. The light streaming through the cracks in the walls, the background... And Harry's determination and concentration are just inspiring. It's simply awesome!
P.S. I have this small suspicion that the pink lines of Draco's torso are Sectumsempra scars, but it could be my quite vivid imagination that is going rampant at the moment.

1:47PM - The Olympics
The world is Olympics right now. I am not a great fan of most of the featured disciplines, but I do watch a fair number.
For those that want to check online or prefer to have a fair choice of what to watch, but their TV channels provide a limited selection, Eurosport offers a nice solution. And it is even easy to watch at work, since it requires no add-ons.
Twelve online channels are available here. The video is widescreen and with amazing quality for online translation. Good enough to watch football and not suffer from unpleasant lagging/pixels/stills/kick-outs.
There's also complete schedule for the channels available here.
A minus is that trying different browser, it only works under IE.

12:15PM - Summer came for me too
Oh, as of today vacation started for me. I have a whole month before I'm back at uni. Yay me. Yay me. I'll sit down and finally concentrate on my hd_inspired fic
While browsing the net today I came upon an interesting article that discussed points that I have often considered. I'll admit that while some of the points were by far disturbing, I can actually see why someone might think like that. Still, I'll never agree or approve. I am taking about the Times Magazine Article Malwebolence, which treats trolling and netiquette. I personally found the article very interesting and maturely written despite the topic. I guess considering the magazine that publishes it, that was to be expected.
The one point I concur absolutely with is that as long as there are people who are easily goaded into stupid conversations and just go on and on when provoked, trolling will flourish.

7:26PM - Movie: Io Non Ho Paura / I'm Not Scared
I didn't initially plan to write about this movie, but then parlophone suggested that I do, and so here it is. She is also the person who first recommended it and the reason I watched it.

2:07PM - Finally! Progress
I've been having problems with my hd_inspired fic from the moment I claimed it. While I had the general plot idea, and even had some random details popping in my head, ever since the moment I saw the prompt, I've been struggling with the structure. I started a few times but it always felt completely wrong. And finally, today while waiting for the bus in the horrible heat and the antiperspirants fought bravely to live up to the advertisements, I had a sudden inspiration how to start and how to structure the story. I was delighted. The two opening scenes just came to me clear and detailed and all the other scenes came in line telling me what in order they need to follow. I'm relieved and happy (and being home, cool thanks to the inventor of the air-conditioning, may all gods bless him/her). Hopefully now I'll finally move along faster.

12:03PM - A book list meme
Saw this on celandineb and decided to adopt it.
Big Read reckons that the average adult has only read 6 of the top 100 books they've printed. Well let's see.
1) Look at the list and bold those you have read.
2) Italicize those you intend to read.
3) Underline the books you LOVE.
4) Reprint this list in your own LJ so we can try and track down these people who've read 6 and force books upon them ;-)

5:58PM - hd_inspired inspired an avalanche
I can't believe it, it's exactly two hours to this post and there have already been 51 claims (according to the number of mod replies, for I can't see the claim comments), and at least 8 people didn't get their first choice. It's stunning really! I suspected that the artists (whose choice is by far less) are the one to suffer the most. I am wrong however, since very few prompts have been claimed for art so far
I had hoped to be the first to reply, but I only managed No 2. I'll live somehow, but it was a hard blow. And my comment showed 1.00 UTC, the same as the post hour!
11:54AM - Mid-year's resolution
I made a mid-year's resolution to actually start using my LJ though I fear how long that will last, since I rarely have the time for that and generally feel stupid writing stuff that probably no one cares about anyway. But the resolution is made.
So today's news is that it's barely 10 am and it's already 30 degrees Celsius outside. I got lucky I finished my outdoors business early or I'd fry my brain otherwise, and I do sometimes need it.
I also decided some time ago that I'll take part in the third round of hd_inspired so I've picked my top three choices and am now waiting for the time to post those. Hopefully I'll get my first choice, but the second and third are still great. I don't expect much of competition for the type of prompts I like, I'll be (pleasantly) surprised if someone else joins me into claiming the same type. Which is kind of good I guess, but still, it's first come, first serve, so I'd better be safe than sorry.
